The Union Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change has recommended environmental approval for the proposed ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel plant at Nakkapalli in Andhra Pradesh’s Anakapalli district, as per an official state government release.

The project involves an initial steelmaking capacity of 8.2 million tonnes per annum and carries an overall investment commitment of about ₹1.5 lakh crore. Planned as a multi-phase development, the facility is expected to expand over time to a total capacity of 24 million tonnes per annum, making it one of the largest greenfield steel projects in the country.

The plant will use advanced, energy-efficient, and low-emission technologies in line with global sustainability standards. Once operational, it is expected to become a key industrial driver for the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Corridor, supporting the growth of downstream industries, manufacturing clusters, and logistics networks across the region.
